In its differenc domain, Marx's treatment of the commodity shows capitalism to be equivalent to the periodic table of historical process. Like those of Jesus, Marx's greatly misunderstood insights gave us hope in a way nothing else could -- humanity is not condemned for all human time to the tooth and claw competition of mere beasts. When put together these two theories supply the basis of an ultimate exercise in historically enlightening, self-illumination. The result is more than just true . . . it is constitutional.
Like the theories of Gallileo and Keppler, and of course like those of Darwin, the theories of Marx and Einstein were each in their different domains destined to appear as the historically necessary successors to all that came before. When the dust had settled, their synthesis was in turn destined as the historically necessary successor to everything that had ever come before.
